Ten individuals found guilty of digital abuse directed at Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has found guilty ten people for engaging in the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President, Emmanuel Macron.

The accused individuals faced accusations of circulating false claims regarding her gender and sexual orientation, in addition to posting malicious remarks about the couple's age disparity of 24 years.

The court handed down suspended jail terms of as much as eight months to the convicted individuals. The complete verdict has still to be made public.

A persistent unfounded claim suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has spread widely since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.

This Monday's court decision in France is concurrent with the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the US against political commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared comparable unfounded claims about the Brigitte Macron's biological sex.

Their lawsuit states that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence that refuted her assertions opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.

Owens has often echoed these claims on her digital program and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her conviction that Mrs. Macron was born a man.

Brigitte Macron first met her current spouse when she taught at his high school.

The two married in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was 54.
