No Kieran McKenna Celtic Talks as Craig Bellamy Pledges to Wales

Both have been linked with the coaching position at the Scottish champions following the former manager's resignation on Monday.

McKenna's Stance on The Scottish Club

McKenna described the Glasgow giants as "a really big football club" but emphasized he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Portman Road in 2021 and guided the team to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they managed only four games last campaign as they were demoted back to the Championship and they currently sit 12th in the Championship.

"There have been any of those conversations," the English capital native former Irish young player said when questioned about being on the candidate list.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my focus is currently.

"I possess a unique position here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important phase of the campaign. Anything external hasn't touched my radar."

Background and Agreement Aspects

It has been suggested that the manager would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about these. "It's unlikely everyone has to go around and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a massive football club."

The coach agreed to a fresh four-year contract in 2024 and was questioned about his alleged buyout clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he replied. "I don't know what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I approach this role like I will remain Town's coach forever. I know that's not always going to be the situation, but I will consistently do my best as while I am here."

Bellamy's Situation

The former striker played for Celtic on temporary transfer from the Magpies in 2005, but the ex- Wales striker is inclined to complete the current World Cup qualification, a stance that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Celtic job.

Wales are presently third in their qualifying group behind leaders Belgium and second-placed Macedonia.

Victories over Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in November would secure their place in the final qualifying round, but they are all but assured of reaching that stage, due to a successful Nations League campaign, should they not end up Group J second place.

Considering his current position, Bellamy, whose agreement expires after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until following the qualifying matches at the earliest.
