The Ryding siblings are among those affected.

The four siblings had their itineraries and entry credentials secured for the fourth and fifth Tests "well ahead of time", anticipating a historic English victory.

Instead, they have watched Australia outplay the visitors in just a short period from their house in the north of England.

"People in the office has been making comments that the series is done for the last two weeks," commented one sibling.

"The hope was that we would have a meaningful contest still when we got there."

But they are now facing the prospect of continuing a barren spell in the country to 19 consecutive Tests when the fourth Test gets under way in the MCG on Christmas Day.

"It will be a great time anyway," commented Katie Ryding. "We must adopt that mindset."

"Of course, it's a let-down we don't have more to play for, but we have spent so much money by now."

"We plan to savor having Christmas and New Year out there. Additionally, it's mine and Rory's first time traveling over Christmas."

A teacher, Katie is determined to make the most of the lengthy journey as part of her Christmas holidays.

"If all else fails, there's always golf to rely on," Katie concluded.
