Far-Right Ex- Legislator José Antonio Kast Voted In as Chile's Next Leader.

After a definitive final ballot, ultra-conservative politician José Antonio Kast has secured the presidential office in Chile.

A Clear-Cut Win

With more than 99% of ballots counted, Kast garnered 58.17% of the ballots, overcoming leftist contender Jeannette Jara, who earned 41.83%.

This marks Kast's third bid for the presidency, having previously been defeated by the incumbent president, Gabriel Boric, in the 2021 second round.

Campaign Focused On Law and Order and Immigration

Noted for his strong socially conservative views and admiration for the era of former leader Augusto Pinochet, Kast's electoral bid was mostly centered on promises to address increasing crime and drastically reduce migration.

He consistently blamed migrants, especially the approximately 330,000 illegal individuals in Chile, for public safety problems. Throughout the race, he issued an final demand for them to depart before the new term begins or face expulsion.
