A prominent Muslim civil liberties organization has charged the current administration of a clear attack to freedom of expression” after federal border officials arrested UK reporter Sami Hamdi this past Sunday.
The group asserted that Hamdi was taken into custody at San Francisco airport facility due to criticizing the Israeli continuing military operations in Gaza. He is part of a group of individuals who have been detained and expelled by federal agents for expressing pro-Palestinian opinions.
The Department of Homeland Security stated that the journalist’s visa had been canceled, and that he was in custody “pending removal.”
British journalist Sami Hamdi was reportedly held Sunday by border officials at a major US airport, and the civil rights group asserts that the detention is obvious retaliation for the Muslim commentator’s criticism of Israeli actions while touring the US.
An announcement from the group said it was “a clear attack to free speech” to detain Hamdi for criticizing the Israeli current military campaign in the Gaza region while he was involved on a speaking tour. Officials commented in a different announcement that Hamdi is facing deportation.
